resistance
One year ago, I redesigned my website to simplify the user experience. I added features like Direct Scheduling! and Google Office! But within six months, I found myself stretched thin across too many platforms, chasing (and resisting) “useful” marketing advice. What started as simple had become complicated.
Building a meditation practice can be like that too. We find ourselves inspired by a book, a friend, or a teacher only to struggle to actually get our butt to the cushion (or bench, or chair). We end up feeling defeated before we have even begun.
Recently, one of my teachers reminded me that our resistance to practice isn’t a problem. In fact, he pointed out that the resistance we feel is less an enemy of practice and more an invitation to practice. And the antidote? Simplify.
Simplifying my website and marketing has clarified where to direct my energy to grow my mentoring program. In the same way, when we notice ourselves complicating or resisting practice, we can return to the simplicity of just taking our seat.
